Intex salt water system

Your Intex pool wants salt at 3,000 ppm (parts per million, the number a salt test shows). Intex's manual calls 2,500 to 3,500 ppm the sweet spot. Low salt is what code 91 tells you. Code 92 flags too much salt.

  1. Pump on. Pour it around the deep end, not into the skimmer.
  2. Brush any salt off the floor until it's gone.
  3. Run the pump 24 hours, then test again.
How this is worked out

Gallons = A × B × average depth × 7.5 for a rectangle, 6.7 for an oval and 5.9 for a round pool (diameter × diameter), the factors in Hayward's manual; 7.0 for a kidney (length × average width), from Inyo's sizing guide. Pounds of salt = (target ppm − your ppm) × gallons × 8.34 ÷ 1,000,000. A gallon of water weighs 8.34 pounds. Bags round up. In liters: kilograms = ppm difference × liters ÷ 1,000,000.

What's the right salt amount for an Intex pool?

The target Intex gives is 3,000 ppm. The ideal zone sits anywhere between 2,500 and 3,500 ppm.

Look up your pool's size in Intex's salt table. From a fresh fill, it shows the salt amount needed to reach 3,000 ppm. Frame pools are figured at 90% full. For Easy Set and oval models, the fill is figured at 80%.

Let the filter pump go for 24 hours without stopping. Before the chlorinator gets turned on, this step dissolves the salt.

Every row doses to 3,000 ppm. Pounds and gallons come straight off the Intex salt table, and the gallons are the water Intex says the pool holds when filled.

What is code 91 telling you?

When code 91 shows, the unit sees salt as too low. Check Intex's salt table for the salt amount that holds the level at 3,000 ppm.

Code 91 can stay lit even once you've added the salt weight the manual calls for. At that point, Intex's support guide tells you not to add more salt.

Look at the pool thermometer as well. Water at 35 °C or more can set off the code, so try cooling it down.

What is code 92 telling you?

Code 92 works the other way around. The unit sees the salt level as too high.

Fixing it means replacing part of the water. Drain about 25% of the water in the pool and top up with fresh water until code 92 goes away.

Water that's too hot can also set it off. When the pool reaches 35 °C or higher, bring the temperature down.

Code 92Salt level is too high. Clean the electrode, then swap out roughly a quarter of what's in the pool.

What's the right amount of cyanuric acid?

Hold cyanuric acid at roughly 1% of the salt level. Intex's rule says so.

Questions people bring to the counter

What's the right way to get my Intex saltwater system going?

Add salt until the water reaches 3,000 ppm. The cyanuric acid should sit at roughly 1% of the salt. Let the filter pump run for a full 24 hours so the salt dissolves. After that, power up the Krystal Clear unit.

On an Intex saltwater system, what is error code 91 telling me?

When the system detects too little salt, it shows code 91. Your pool water hitting 35 °C or more also trips it. Already put in the salt weight the manual lists? Then don't pour in any extra.

Which salt level is the right target?

Aim for 3,000 ppm of salt, with 2,500 to 3,500 ppm as the ideal band. The cyanuric acid should stay near 1% of the salt weight.
